What is your role at Greendeck?
Initially I joined as a machine leaning intern at Greendeck, but soon my responsibilities expanded into different field such as Data analysis, Scraping, Flask Services. Being from a non computer science background, most of the things were alien to me at first, but I worked hard to overcome these challenges. The team at Greendeck always supported and helped me. Currently I am working as a full time Machine Learning Engineer solving problems faced by retailers all across the globe.
What suggestion would you give to someone who, just like you, wants to get into machine learning but is not from a computer science background?
I would recommend the Deep-Learning Specialisation to anyone who wants to learn about machine learning. The creator of this course Andrew Ng not only delves into the fundamentals of machine learning theory but there are these amazingly curated assignments which one gets to solve with help of Keras (best ML framework for beginners). The pre-requites for entering into machine learning is high school calculus and basics of python. Machine Learning is supported by an amazing community who posts regular blogs surrounding new research in this field, some of the resources are Medium, Towards Data Science, Machine Learning Mastery etc. Kaggle is another platform that I found really helpful in my initial days to work on real-life datasets.
Tell us something interesting about you!
I am an avid book reader (mostly non-fictional). My favourite book is Freakonomics by Stephen J. Dubner and Steven Levitt. Swimming is one of my favourite outdoor activity to do. Besides this I played a lot of table tennis in college.
What do you like most about the workplace?
The founders here possess a remarkable energy that charges and motivates the team. From the first day we have been treated like a family, and we live like one too. The team at greendeck comprises of amazing individuals who motivate and help each other and I feel fortunate to be a part of this team.
What did you do before joining Greendeck?
I graduated from UIETH, Panjab University in Electronics and Communications. I was a part Technical Group of our college and participated in many robotics tournaments.
Who is your role model?
It would be really difficult to point out one role model, there are many people from different walks of life who inspire me. Figures of history like Mahatma Gandhi, from science it would be Nikola Tesla, Leonardo Da Vinci from art, and Bill Gates and Steve Jobs from technology.
